Ann, Anne, and Wynne
Ann, Anne and Wynne
Ledbury and Malvern
Anne: I’m born and bred in Malvern. I am 79. I’ve always wanted to stay here, we love it here. I go out on the hills every day. It sets my mind. It’s lovely and I’ve got I’ve got two dogs that I walk every day. I definitely feel part of it here. “Born and, strong in the arm, weak in the head!”
Ann: I was born in the Lake District in Workington. I lived there until I was 21 and then have been down in this area. I went to Gloucestershire first then to Malvern, and then over to Ledbury. I’ve lived in Ledbury for 24 years. Home is Ledbury. I was born in the Lakes, but I live here and I love it here. Where Anne was born in Malvern is where I moved to, just a few doors down in Hornyold Road. The reason we moved from there is we lost sun early, in the summer, that north hill takes your sun out.
Normally I probably wouldn’t walk on this part of the hills because there’s so many people. But I love to see that there’s lots of people. It is a recreation area. When we walk now, we probably will see very few people because we keep off the tops.
I know the hills like the back of my hand. I lead walking groups up here. I just love it here.
The area itself is peaceful. I like the peace and tranquillity of Herefordshire. I think it’s a lovely county. What it does for me is, well, it just puts you where you are. Puts you in your place in the world, doesn’t it? Sort of determines who you are, I suppose. I could never have lived in a city. Never.
Ann, Anne, and Wynne Story
Win:I’m from the lakes. I was born in Whitehaven and then got married, had three daughters. Then my husband died and I came down to be with my eldest daughter, which is Ann. This was eight years. it’s a bit different here, the fells in the Lake District are much higher. At least there are hills. Well, they call them hills!

I moved for Work. I got married. Just a typical other girl of my time, probably. You want to get away. You don’t want to go back. I was probably the first generation to leave the Lakes. I think in other parts of the country it had probably been earlier. But I was the first generation away to go to university. It was an exciting time, the 60s, 70s.

I’ve always been interested in the outdoors. Going for a walk is therapeutic.

When I left the lakes, I would never have gone to somewhere like Bedfordshire or somewhere like that because there were no hills. The Malvern Hills are great, 12 miles end to end, and you can really step out and that’s important.
